Chinese New Year 2025

Why Do Filipinos Observe the Celebration of Chinese New Year?

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is widely celebrated in the Philippines. The country has a strong historical and cultural connection with the Chinese community, dating back centuries when Chinese traders and settlers first arrived.

One of the main reasons Filipinos observe Chinese New Year is the significant influence of Chinese culture on Filipino traditions, language, and even cuisine. Many Filipino families have Chinese ancestry, and over time, Chinese traditions have blended with local customs. The celebration is also recognized as a special non-working holiday in the Philippines, allowing people to take part in festivities.

Filipinos celebrate Chinese New Year with various traditions, such as giving out "ang pao" (red envelopes with money), dragon and lion dances, and preparing lucky foods like tikoy
